Optimal Placement of Boards in Rip Saws

The Tisfoon Lateral Lumber Defect Scanner automatically detects defects, knots, and wane as well as the shape of the board for optimal placement inside a rip saw. The system may be retrofitted onto existing rip saw feed systems and is currently compatible with the Mereen Johnson 4+2 rip saw and fixed arbor saws.

The camera box is only 18 inches by 12 inches by 4 inches. It is hung from the ceiling about 11 feet away from the board. no special lighting is needed, but the area should be sufficiently lit.

Here is our Raimann ProfiRip KR 450 M retrofit. This model has 3 moveable blades. We replaced the 3 original motors and drives with all new Yaskawa Sigma 7 motors and drives. We also replaced the fence servo motor and gearbox of the ValuRip with a new Yaskawa Sigma 7 gearmotor. All new control system with new software and new HMI. The operator said that the ValuRip ran better with our software.

Here is our lateral scanner working with a fixed arbor rip saw and a Compu-Rip rip saw feeder that we retrofitted. The Compu-Rip has all new control system and software. Fully automatic operation.
